The Christine A Geehrer Inspiration in Medicine Award (CAGIM) will provide a grant of $26,200 each year to one deserving individual enrolled in the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. The award will be available for tuition, books and materials.
Eligibility: The individual selected for a grant each year must demonstrate financial need and be selected by a majority of the CAGIM Board of Directors. Individuals will be selected based on demonstrating an extraordinary passion for sports, notably running, an uncommon zeal for adventure, and an unusual attraction for challenges. These attributes will be judged based on an applicant’s participation in challenging projects or programs such as athletic events, civic causes, professional endeavors or overcoming extraordinary family or personal challenges. The individual selected must be enrolled or accepted into USCF medical school and committed to attaining a degree to practice in the field of medicine. Students who compete successfully for the CAGIM award must have a satisfactory academic record — but the primary purpose of the scholarship is to recognize and help underwrite a student’s commitment to the broader community.
Application Procedures: Students are notified of this opportunity in early April with applications due via email by June 1, 2017. Applicants will be notified in mid-June 2017 for an interview with the CAGIM Board of Directors, when one student is chosen to receive this Award. The distribution of the CAGIM Award is coordinated by the UCSF Office of Undergraduate Medical Education.
